MAC vs Rimmel London

Lipstick is that essential must have item for every woman’s makeup bag. When it comes to choosing the right one, we can be very picky indeed. Many of the high end brands charge a rather unreasonable amount for the actual quality of lipstick you get. One of these is MAC Cosmetics. Everybody nowadays sings MAC’s praises, claiming it will stay on ‘all night’ and that you ‘can’t get a better quality lipstick’. Personally, I’m not too sure. Is it really worth all that money and are there cheaper and better alternatives to MAC‘s lipstick range?

 

I only have two MAC lipsticks - one red and one burgundy/plum colour. I do agree that when it comes to colours, MAC rules. The extensive colour range is different from that of any other cheaper makeup brand, with at least twelve different shades of red lipstick alone. They also have a wide range of finishes ranging from matte to sleek, so that you get the perfect texture.

 

However, I was very disappointed with the amount of time the lipstick actually stays on for. I, along with most people, would probably only wear MAC lipstick on nights out due to how much it costs. The price of MAC lipstick ranges from £15.50 - £20 so for this much money you would expect it to stay on pretty much all night right? Wrong. Sometimes I have to reapply my MAC lipstick up to three or four times in one night! This results in the lipstick going down very fast, making me wonder, could I have just bought a cheaper one for the same quality of product?

 

The shade Lady Danger from MAC’s lipstick range is personally my favourite colour of matte red as it’s a classic post-box red with a slightly orange undertone. However I have also found that Rimmel Kate Long Lasting finish lipstick in colour 110 is pretty much exactly the same. Although Rimmel London don’t have the same extensive colour range as MAC, I believe the colours they do have are the most popular and probably the colours you girls will use the most such as reds and pinks.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I think Rimmel London Kate Lasting Finish lipstick gives just the same effect and stays on for the same amount of time but only retails at £5.49 in Boots. For this price it’s an absolute bargain and it’s exactly the same quality as MAC. In the past I’ve also found that matte high street lipsticks can leave your lips a bit flaky and dry but this glides on very smoothly and although it is matte, it left my lips feeling moisturised throughout the night.

 

This is the first time I’ve tried Rimmel London and I have to say I was happily surprised and I’ll definitely be buying it again and trying the different colours Rimmel London has to offer me.  Even just by just swapping your standard red MAC lipstick that you use for every night out for a Rimmel London one could make a significant change to your bank balance!
