Brayford food

Kenna Jordan-Lee Zarebski

On a beautiful setting looking over Brayford Wharf you will find a variety of popular restaurants to choose from. Here there are places to eat on the Brayford which students may consider cheap and some they may consider to be more expensive.

I have put together a list of the most popular waterfront restaurants to help you decide where to eat that is affordable to you.

First we have Italian restaurant, Zizzi. I absolutely love going out for food and one my favourite places to eat is Zizzi. I had never really been to an Italian restaurant before trying Zizzi and now I wouldn’t go anywhere else for some nice Italian food. Zizzi is perfect if you fancy going somewhere different for quality food, which is worth your money. It isn’t the cheapest place to eat, however, look out for discount codes online! Certain weeks you can receive discount at Zizzi such as 25% off your food bill. Another thing I love about this restaurant are the friendly food portions. A particular favourite of mine are the pasta dishes and the pizza, which is cooked in their own pizza oven burner. You will not leave feeling hungry that’s for sure! If you fancy going somewhere a bit nicer than sticking to the regular cheap and cheerful pub food then Zizzi might be the place for you!

There are two other Italian Restaurants on the Waterfront, which are Prezzo and Ask Italian. Both are lovely places to eat, however their menu’s still don’t appeal to me as much as Zizzi’s. I have eaten at Prezzo before and they are slightly more expensive. However I believe in always trying something before judging it, so treat yourself one evening with a group of friends and try an Italian and then you can compare and see which one you prefer!

Also on the Brayford there is a Nando’s. Nando’s is always a popular one to go to, many students eat here during the week and on weekends. For those of you who have never been and aren’t sure what Nando’s is then we're talking a whole lot of chicken! It is what students may consider relatively cheap priced food. An average price for a meal for one person is around £13. There are many different chicken dishes to enjoy with a range of different sides. If you order a bottomless drink such as coke then you get a bonus of free refills. The portion sizes are also friendly so you wont be left feeling hungry, but for those of you who like to eat a lot then a selection of desserts are also available. If you don't fancy dining in then you can enjoy Nando's to take away. You can’t beat Nando’s for a chilled, casual evening meal!

Another cheap favourite on the waterfront is Harvester. Harvesters are really popular as their food is what you may call your typical pub food at a good price. Their menu is varied so there is plenty to choose from. Something that might make Harvester quite popular is their free salad bar. It doesn’t matter what you order, customers can enjoy an unlimited free salad bowl to go with their meal. Harvester is however slightly different to dining in a pub. The restaurant is table service and has a friendly, fun atmosphere for everyone. It also has a take away option and offers a breakfast menu.

Next we have the Mexican restaurant, Chimichanga. Some dishes on the menu could be considered rather expensive, so if you want to go somewhere to eat but are on a budget then you might want to go somewhere a bit cheaper. However, if you're wanting to try something different and don’t mind spending that bit extra money then try Chimichanga! Surrounded by a fun atmosphere, this restaurant also has a great selection of cocktails to get your taste buds tingling! I love trying new and different foods and Chimichanga’s menu has me spoilt for choice!

Handmade Burger Co is situated next to Nando’s and as you can probably guess, it’s all about burgers! You will not know what to order the first time you eat here, as there are so many different burgers to choose from! At this restaurant your burger comes on it’s own. Prices of the burgers vary, some more expensive than others. Therefore if you want chips you have to order them on the side. In my experience of eating here I have always found it better to share chips with someone I go with. For me, the portion size of the chips is too big for me to eat by myself, so bear this in mind if you go to eat here. Along with alcohol, Handmade Burger Co do a range of different milkshakes if you fancy something different to drink!

Lastly, we have Wagamama’s. The unique location of this restaurant makes it stand out as it is situated actually on the water. Wagamama is for those of you who may yet again fancy something a bit different. Wagamama is a Japanese restaurant and noodle bar. Their fresh and tasty food yet again varies in price. You have your main dishes to choose from and can add any extra sides you may like. Wagamama is somewhere I really like to eat every now and then, as I want to try a different dish each time. It is really nice for a casual lunch or evening meal. Like Nando's and Harvester, you can choose to take away food from here if you dont want to eat in.

You will be spoilt for choice when it comes to eating out in Lincoln. There are many more restaurants around the city, however for me, the waterfront has the perfect location. You are also right next to the cinema, so why not make a night of it by watching a film and enjoying some great food?

I love eating different types of food and if you do too then the Brayford Waterfront combines a different mixture of restaurants for you to choose from.
