Affordable gyms in Lincoln
Kenna Jordan-Lee Zarebski

If your going to be a new student in Lincoln who enjoys using a gym but just isn't sure whether you’ll be able to afford it, then I have put together the perfect guide of affordable gyms in Lincoln to help you decide.

Here you will find a list of gyms and their prices so you can figure out what is best for you. Some are close the University of Lincoln campus whilst others may be a fair walking distance or if some of you have a car, driving to the gym may be an option.

You want to weigh your options carefully, especially if you’re a regular gym goer. If you go at least five times a week then you may want a monthly membership, or some yearly memberships actually work out cheaper in the long run. For those of you that only go once or twice a week you may want to consider whether a monthly or yearly membership is really worth it.

Some of you may enjoy taking part in classes. Most gyms have a monthly membership option, which include classes at a bit of an extra charge.

Also, the gyms facilities may be of some importance to you depending on what you like to do or what takes your fancy.

The University of Lincoln Sports Centre:

The University's Sports Centre is a five-minute walk off campus. It is situated right next to The Pavilions student accommodation, so if you are staying there then that might be beneficial to you if you want a gym you can easily walk too. This gym is purely only for students and alumni. The price for this gym for a yearly membership is £175 for a student. This may seem a lot to pay upfront for some people so you can choose a monthly membership, which costs £24 a month. The yearly membership however, actually works out cheaper for you so you’d be saving roughly around £10 a month! An induction is required and costs £5. The gym isn’t too big but consists of cardio machines, a free weights training area along with a vast variety of machines. Purchasing any membership with the Sports Centre gives you access to use the sauna. Classes added to your membership are a bit extra. However, if you’re someone who only would like to attend a class once a month, you can book your place and these start from £3. An extra thing the University's gym also does is a class every Friday 5:00-6:00pm for only £1 per person! This gym is rather popular as it’s closest to the different student accommodation so it can sometimes get quite busy.

FitSpace Gym:

FitSpace Gym is about a 10-15 minute walk from the University. This gym is a bit bigger and consists of a free weights area and cardio equipment. If you drive to this gym then you can park your car outside at no extra cost. An induction at this gym is free however there is a joining fee, which is £10. Monthly memberships start from only £14 a month at FitSpace and an annul membership is £168.00. This gym is very popular also because of how low the membership starts at, so if you’re on a tight budget this gym may be the best option for you!

DW Fitness Club:

Lincoln’s DW Fitness Club is located on Tritton Road. To get to this gym you might need either a car or a bike as it is roughly around a 7-minute drive away. Parking at this club is free. DW Fitness is slightly more expensive with student memberships starting from £19.95 a month. Facilities at this gym include a free weights area, cardiovascular and resistance machines. The gym also consists of a swimming pool, steam and spa room. There are many group exercises and classes to choose from for those that enjoy mixing up their fitness. Lincoln’s DW Fitness club even has sunbeds for those aged 18+ to use. This is a very popular gym to attend however, not for students due to its location and price.

Pacific Health Club:

Pacific Health Club is about a 20-minute walk from the University, located on Waterloo Street. A student membership at this gym is £17, pay as you go is £3.50 per session and a yearly membership is £199. This gym has a separate area for women with all the cardio and resistant machines along with weights. Like DW Fitness Club, this gym also has sunbeds and a hair salon.

Puregym:

This gym is a new gym that is due to open at the end of April. if you join before it opens then your monthly membership will only cost £10.99 every month. If you join after the gym has opened your monthly cost will be higher at £17.99. A £10 joining fee is also required. If you join now you will have to pay £10.99 and the joining fee straight away, and then you wont pay your next monthly payment until one month after the gym has opened. The location of this gym is really good as well, located in St Marks Centre, less than 200m from the University of Lincoln. This gym also caters all you needs with cardiovascular machines and a free weights area with a large variety of machines and weights to choose from. Another bonus with this gym is that it is open 24 hours So no matter what time you want to work out, you can!
